Fiona Abel-Smith: Friday Featured Artist (on Saturday)

Sorry I am a day late with this post. The orders for the Helen Breil Silk Screens overwhelmed me just a bit. 🙂 I am going to be very bust this weekend.

This weeks artist makes the most amazing boxes I have ever seen ! Her name is Fiona Abel-Smith and I am in awe. They are entirely polymer clay ! !

Look at the details involved. Stunning ! Absolutely stunning !

Even the inside is finished with mokume gane. WOW!

Here is a picture of just the lid to one of her boxes. I can not even imagine how many hours of work this took to complete just the lid.

Oh, and Fiona makes dragons and jewelry too. 🙂

You can see more of Fiona’s work in her Flickr Gallery.

One Color Wonders

I was cruising around Flickr and found the greatest clay group called Polymer Clay Today which led me to this artist who only used one color of clay. The item that cought my eye was gorgeous. I wondered how many other cool things could I find where the artist only used one color of clay.

Selena Anne Wells has a album full of one color pieces. Be sure to check them all out.

Fantasy Sculptors I Admire

I’ve been reading fantasy books for many years. I love the damsel in distress being rescued, the knight slaying the dragon to save the village, and the wizard casting a powerful spell to defeat the evil king. When I see beautiful sculptures of a fantasy creature or figure it truly gives me joy and fills my head with all these wonderful images I can reflect upon as I read.

If you Google the words “polymer clay fantasy sculpture” you will get thousands of hits. I have narrowed it down to handful of my favorite artists for you viewing pleasure. 🙂

The Steampunk Phenomenon

Steampunk has edged it’s way into the polymer clay community. I love the idea of using old or unusual stuff and adding it into my work. Why throw it away if it can be salvaged for another use? The most common parts that show up in Steampunk are gears, cogs and other watch parts, but I’ve also seen chain, nail heads, eyelets, springs, zippers and much more. The possibilities are endless.

I’ve made a couple Steampunk pendants. Here’s my first try.
steampunk heart

I scoured the internet for some examples of polymer clay Steampunk for your enjoyment.
